Hightlighted Artist - Jonny Chavez

Jonny Chavez is a 21year old Colorado native. She was born in Fruita, Colorado and raised in Arvada. This talented artist is not a huge painter but has been doing colored pencil work since she was 11 and realized her passion early on. From time to time, Chavez experiments with new materials and products and has found an interest in jewelry making, sewing, and crochet as well. She states, "The style of art I make is solely based on drawing the moods I feel when listening to different genres of music from funk to oldies and anything in between. 

Regarding her addition to Denver Hospice´s The Mask Project, Chavez explains, 




"I´ve decorated this mask using acrylic paint, sharpie paint markers, glitter, and modpodge. I wanted to show the endless shape and color of the phases someone might go through or feel when trying to become their own desert flower. I hoped to glorify the importance of shifting into your own ideas, passion, and character no matter age, place or scenario"

Highlighted artist - Hektor Muñoz

            

The vivacious, controversial, international performer/green artist HEKTOR MUNOZ has been a staple of the Denver Poetry Scene for the last twenty years, as well as a prolific artist in the Mile High City art district. Munoz' work has been published, produced, exhibited, and censored throughout the United States, Mexico, South America Germany and Australia. Locally his work has been censored by the Community College of Aurora, The Chicano Humanities Arts Council, North High School and the Denver Art Society to name a few.  Most recently his art was featured in WESTWORD'S ARTOPIA 2016 and the Center for the Visual Arts exhibit 'ARTABILITY'. His poem "I WILL DANCE AGAIN" about the Orlando genocide has been accepted for publication by Publik/Private Magazine.
                 

Mexican born/Texas raised Munoz's "POETRY FOR THE LIBERATED, is an open mic/bilingual poetry and spoken word soiree. The title refers to the oppression of people in our present day society. His own work explores the juxtaposed reality of being a bilingual, bipolar, disposable and very sexual homosexual and AMERICAN MADE ARTIST...You will laugh, you will cry, you will want the t-shirt. He will offend you, anger you and make you laugh, but most important he will make you feel. His work has often been compared to LENNY BRUCE, ALLEN GINSBERG, AND JEAN GENET.

Highlighted Artist - Victoria Gómez Betancourt

Victoria Gómez Betancourt is a native of Caracas, Venezuela and a Mexican at heart. This veMEXzolana pays homage to her life-long adventures in rural towns and urbes of Mexico by singing gripping rancherasand traditional Mexican canciones. Performances often include hits from the trova suramericana that grapple with social and political issues. Her Caribbean roots and llanera heritage come alive through the deep hues of her voice, and political dissonance rise through her falsete.

In addition to music, Victoria has a long trajectory as a visual artist and a writer. Both her artwork and her prose explore the complexities of being Latina, sudaca, a woman of color, and an immigrant chingona who is also a reproductive justice advocate and abortion positive artivist.

Victoria lives in Aurora’s immigrant enclave with her two loves, her mom Teo and her cat Tenoch.

Highlighted Artist - Adolfo Romero

Chilean visual artist , songwriter , poet and cultural manager . Born in Arica in 1975. Currently residing in North America.

His visual work includes a series of techniques that are always searching for symbolic relationships inside and reunion with its origins in the social world and history . About this work: " My visual proposal brings forth the conscious encounter of man and his relationship with life through an iconographic transformation of his inner projections. " Here arises the necessity to register stages of existence as archives of the individual and collective origin , understanding the "I" as an integration of both of these in the process of discovery. Seeking for cognitive direction in the process. The idea of what is advocated as an induction to the yearnings beyond the art work itself is sustained.

The creative act , both in symbolism and expression, serves as an axis in which there is an influence over a certain reality . I yield the aesthetic object as part of a sequence that is triggered into the tangible reality , something that goes beyond the technical process , promoting the destiny of various ideas. It is something that interacts with everything in its surroundings , and places itself from a contingent context in the midst of the developments towards the future successors that have not been cultivated.

Highlighted Artist - Becky Nutt

Becky Nutt aka Becky Beloved is an active actress and music enthusiast. She is starting to make her way into the industry with lead roles in feature and short indie films. She has TV/Film Training at DS-Studio Works, Denver's Film Acting Academy and Benji Dobrin Studios. She trained with the Directors Guild of Nigeria and was a lead actress in 3 short scenes with the Colorado Film School. She also has other training with Mark Grove and is a member of his stunt training team, Rocky Mountain Stunts, at the Risk Factor Action Training Center.  Recently Becky has been cast in the TV Show Bloom, as Marcella Reeves, which will premiere on Amazon stream and more on September 12th, 2016.

Becky is also very actively involved in music and is starting to write electronic music. She also writes a music blog for Music is 4 Lovers as "girlie". She really loves to dance and does it as much as possible. She often makes up her own routines to various songs. She can play the saxophone, clarinet, flute, piano, oboe, bongos, xylophone, snare drum, and other percussion instruments.

Becky works hard on and off set and is very easy to get along and work with. She enjoys writing poetry, lyrics and short stories, and does it as a hobby. She really enjoys being outside, exercising, yoga, hiking, and water sports. She is active in the business and volunteer community as well and represents HDR as the Event Manager for the Young Professionals Leadership Team

A Fashion Story

Two models, four dancers, a little girl, and a bulldog walked down a sunny path dressed in high fashion. Have you heard this one before? It´s no joke but rather a fashion story.

On a hot day in June, Parallel Artistic puts its talents and resources to good use by producing a video documentary and associated photo shoot for one of Denver´s premier fashion designers. The internationally recognized Carol Mier, owner of Carol Mier Fashion, combined forces with some of her city´s talented artist to show the world what she´s all about. It´s collaboration, it´s co-creation, it´s art as publicity. 

The incredibly fast paced project started with styling by Carol, and the looks were finished off by Julio Cerros´ (makeup) and Lorenzo Martínez (hair). Shot in four iconic locations around Denver´s Santa Fe art district, the dancers of 6Degrees Colaborative, dancer turned spokesmodel Xitlali, model Bianka Tarango, and other collaborators told the story of "The world dressed in Carol Mier" as they injected everyday situations with larger than life movement and incredible fashion.
